Hello everyone! Thank you for your help when I was trying to figure out MSW programs.
If there is anyone on here who became a social worker and graduated with an MSW and would like to be friends, please let me know (however I suggest reading my profile to see what I am about and if we'd get along first).
I am wanting to have some more LMSWs on my friends list to establish a support network of social workers while I start my program. Thanks!! |

| Is it a part of social work?! |
[Apr. 22nd, 2012|07:02 am] |
Hello guys!
I have a very strange question…I’ve just heard that in one of Montreal’s hospital, in neonatology department, one of the social worker’s tasks is to wash and dress the body of dead newborns…I have difficulties to believe in it, but the information is true… I was wondering if there is a same practice in the other parts of the world. In my opinion it is not that a social worker should do and it has to be someone from ritual services. Maybe I am wrong? |

I was also accepted to the "Administration, Advocacy & Policy" concentration in the MSW program at The University of Kansas. I have decided to go there.
That's pretty cool, I got into every program I applied to. :-) |

I'm considering last minute applying to the University of Southern California online MSW program. Does anyone know any information on the program or gone to it? Did you or someone else who has like it?

Has anyone here done or is doing a joint Ph.D. program at the University of Michigan?
I'd really like to do this program, assuming I'd even be accepted which is a huge assumption. I have some questions though. Mainly- is it possible to work part-time while doing this (since it's a full time only program)? I was just offered (and accepted!) a part time position at a different university, which I'm not about to quit in the near future, so I could only do the joint Ph.D. program in the near future if it allowed for working part time while completing it. |

| Nervous about grad school! |
[Apr. 3rd, 2012|08:00 pm] |
Greetings all! I'm so excited to have found this comm! I've been on lj for years but never found it!
I was recently(on Saturday) accepted into MSU's MSW program and am now facing a ton of self doubt. I'm a good student and I love to study/be in class but I'm worried about the transition from college(I go to a small community college) to an MSW program. I am doing it part time but I was wondering if any could share their experiences/thoughts about their first semester as an MSW student. Thank you so much!! |

| Michigan Licensing |
[Feb. 26th, 2012|01:12 am] |
I'm hoping someone knows this. When I was in school (MSW) I was told a person can get their license in both clinical and macro with one as the primary and one as the secondary- you get the same hours in your primary as normal and slightly fewer in the secondary, and take both tests. And I have seen people who claim to be licensed as both macro and clinical. I'm only just now get around to trying to get my limited license because I'm still unemployed and licensing is expensive! (at least it is to me since I have no income yet). But looking at the forms, it says you have to choose either clinical or macro- and doesn't give any option for doing both. I don't want to guess and mess things up (can I select both and pay twice the fee? Can I apply for one now and send a second application for the other later?)
So hoping someone here knows about this!

EDIT: Ok looking closer at the forms I see that there is an option to do both, it just isn't under the limited license box. http://www.michigan.gov/documents/mdch_sw_master_app_pkt_130548_7.pdf The one I am looking at is the Application for Master's Social Worker License It says "I AM APPLYING FOR THE FOLLOWING: []Limited Master's Social Worker License Fee:$40.00 71-6801-03 []Clinical []Macro []Master's Social Worker License- Clinical- Fee: $40.00 71-6801-01 []Add Macro Fee $15.00 71-6801-01 []Master's Social Worker License- Macro- Fee $40.00 71-6801-01 []Add Clinical Fee $15 71-6801-01 []Master's Social Worker License- by Endorsement- Fee $40.00 71-6801-09 []Clinical []Macro"
This is still confusing me. From what it looks like to me though... I could apply for the limited license in one of the other, and then later apply for a full license with my hours and add on the other at that time? |

| University of Missouri-Columbia's MSW program |
[Feb. 20th, 2012|09:25 pm] |

| | happy | ] | I got into University of Missouri-Columbia's MSW program for the Policy, Planning and Administration option. I've applied to a couple other schools, but no word yet. MU-Columbia had a really early deadline, so that's why I heard back so soon.
I doubt I'll go there because they're out of state (and therefore really expensive), but an acceptance letter is always a good sign, right? |
